Philosophy – Youth Leadership Program
The Goals
The goals of our youth sports leadership development program are to inspire and educate people in leadership principles and to present personal effectiveness tips, techniques, and strategies simply by using sports. In turn, people may apply these lessons to students and:
- Have kids engage in meaningful, enjoyable activities
- Teach valuable life skill lessons
- Maximize a student’s positive change in their life through sports and other activities.
- Allow leaders to maximize their behavior and effectiveness when acting in supervisory roles.
- Teach parents and teachers to role model and teach these concepts to others so they may teach other family members, students, or athletes.
Hopefully, we can show that anyone can teach, lead, and become a role model to better help their community.
This program is designed to teach leadership principles to parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors so they in turn have the knowledge to share with children. It is designed specifically for parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors because these are the people who have the most influence and contact with our youth.
The program serves two purposes. First, it teaches leadership principles to parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors. Second, it provides a direct teaching platform and guide for teaching leadership principles directly to youth.
Use sports to teach leadership
We provide leadership tools, lessons and skills to teachers, coaches, mentors and parents. Leadership and sports can teach your child the valuable skills of self-confidence, character and perseverance.
Kids gain confidence and learn persistence
Through our programs and seminars, children learn the attitude, skills and knowledge it takes to gain higher self-esteem, quickly develop confidence and persistence.
Youth learn new leadership principles, the importance of having a vision and strategies critical to besting the competition.
Simple, highly effective and easy to teach
You get a simple, highly effective and easy to teach program. Students receive a new, easy to understand and refreshing approach to leadership. We de-mystify leadership and present you with a simple format that is ready to be taught at your next practice.
Students receive instant benefit from the useful, quick and easy to digest, bite size chunks of information. Our difference is leadership that is easy to read, teach and internalize.
You begin with self-awareness and self-leadership
All learning programs share a major concept and a developmental model based on self-awareness and self-leadership. Each program or seminar relies on the foundation and the major philosophical themes of competing, hard work and persistence.
• The “Half Step” concept: Staying ahead of your competition.
• The “Warrior’s Mentality:” A combination of mental and spiritual strength.
Leadership is Fully Transferable from Sports to Life
The leadership strategies students will learn are powerful, practical and apply universally. These are not “flavor of the day” principles. They are age-old concepts that have been proven effective time after time.
The fundamental value of these universal messages is deceptive and can be easily overlooked. These proven principles are equally effective in all aspects of life. From the skate park to the golf course, from the math class to the football field or any place in between, the basis of our teachings is timeless.
Stand-Alone Lessons and a Building Block Approach
We have used a building block approach in the lessons. The key blocks are designed to provide students with a practical framework of leadership, the foundation for further learning and maximize their behavior when acting in a leadership capacity.
Each lesson is designed to be a small part of a larger picture, and to provide its own special learning component. Each lesson builds on the other and a synergistic model of practical and useful leadership principles and strategies evolves.
Each of the lessons can also stand-alone. Overlap of content from lesson to lesson may occur, but will reinforce the objectives learned in different applications.
• Each program is customizable to meet the needs of particular groups or individuals.
• Confidential consultations help you tailor our programs to your personal needs.
Leadership Is Dynamic
Leadership principles are dynamic and should be taught in active participation. Both individual and team sports serve well as a backdrop or forum for teaching leadership. Fun, creative games and even video games can be used as a method to challenge the student’s mind and to reinforce the lessons.
This Leadership Program is Also Dynamic
We have purposely not chosen one particular sport or activity to use as an example to teach leadership principles. We have designed a generic leadership program for use with all activities and sports.
We advise parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors to do their homework and tailor effective lessons around their child’s specific sports or activities.
This is Your Leadership Program
This project was started and built on the premise of “pay it forward.” By that, we mean that if you can go out and start a leadership program in your community using your interests and your sports, go do it. We want you to teach your child, but you should also consider helping other children as well who may need some guidance.
We need your help to make this the best possible leadership program and website for everybody and to build an online community to assist parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors. We encourage you to help us do this by returning to the website forum and blog to share your questions, comments, experiences, successes and even failures with others.
Your skill level as a leader is not critical to the process, but your involvement is. If you are a bike enthusiast, start mentoring and putting on bike clinics at the local park. If you are a fishing enthusiast, fish with your youngster and their friends. Start small.
