About
The Life Performance Institute is an educational organization dedicated to providing leadership training to young people. By using the people who influence them as the teachers and youth sports as the setting, we teach valuable skills of self-confidence, character and perseverance.
Vision
Help the people who influence kids the most
Our vision is to teach valuable leadership skills to the people who influence youth the most. We educate teachers, coaches, mentors and parents so they can teach leadership to their children.
Use sports to improve the transfer of knowledge
We have a leadership program that can be easily transferred from sport to sport, enabling teachers, coaches, mentors and parents to use the sport of their choice as the environment for the lessons.
By using an interest the child and teacher have in common, the Life Performance Institute sees a greatly improved transfer of the leadership lessons. When mixed with the dynamic environment of sports, the leadership lessons will instill life-long habits of production and performance and vastly improve a child’s chance of success in life.
Ensure all our futures
By teaching visionary leadership to youth, you are ensuring a child’s future success. As you teach the attitude, skills and knowledge necessary to becoming a visionary leader, you ensure all our futures.
Our leadership programs help kids find the need, devise the will and commit to move to action to achieve their destiny.
Leadership helps students have increased confidence and perform better, both in the classroom and on the playing field. Leadership helps kids better handle the rigors of modern life.
How It Happened
A few years ago when I separated from the military, I began teaching aviation at the Miami-Dade College. During class, a student asked if it was difficult learning to fly those “big jets.” I stopped, thought for a minute about the answer, and replied frankly “yes and no.” Yes, the task was hard, filled with pitfalls and setbacks. In fact, it was one of the most difficult things I have done. But at the same time it was not difficult. Flight school was one of the most enjoyable and easiest things I have accomplished!
While the answer fully satisfied my student, the question led to great thought on my part. I asked myself how could that be. I was never a very good student, nor did I work particularly hard at being one. Furthermore, I was the guy usually in direct conflict with authority. How did I get along in military flight school?
After much reflection, the answer came to me. Why didn’t somebody tell me this earlier? How simple everything would have been had I known a few simple rules, mixed them with military training I received in the USAF and the lessons I learned playing sports.
In flight school, I combined the clarity of a vision and singularity of purpose with the military leadership training and my athletic background. Those three things are what allowed me to excel in USAF Flight School. Then I thought how many kids are out there just like me. Unchallenged, uninterested or bored by school – what a revelation it would be if they could be exposed to the lessons I have learned!
